Rights Respecting School

                United Nations Convention

              on the

              Rights of the Child

Dundonald Primary and Nursery school have received the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child (UNCRC) Level 2 Rights Respecting Schools Award. This award is only granted to schools who have fully embedded children's rights throughout the school in its policies, practice and ethos. The Convention embraces all children and has 54 articles that cover all aspects of a child's life.

Within the nursery we ensure that the learning environment and educational experiences provided respect the rights of each child. The staff are committed to ensuring that the children enjoy their rights through providing a safe environment which is exciting and educational. A Class Charter has been discussed and agreed with the children, resulting in the children being aware of their rights. We specifically focus on the right to learn, play and be safe. Through positive approaches we also ensure that each child respects the rights of the other children. This results in a caring and respectful attitude being displayed toward peers.
