Dundonald Nursery Unit was established in September 2011. The Nursery Unit is situated in a specially refurbished building within the grounds of the Primary School. This building compliments our main school, providing a 21st century centre of excellence for present and future generations who choose Dundonald Primary School and Nursery Unit for the first eight years of their child’s education. The current enrolment for the Nursery is 52 children, 26 children in the morning session and 26 children in the afternoon session. The morning session is from 9:00am - 11:30am and the afternoon session is from 12:30pm – 3pm.

The Nursery Unit is staffed by an Early Year’s specialist team comprising of 1Teacher and 1 Nursery Assistant.

This dedicated Nursery Team endeavour to build strong foundations, a positive attitude towards learning and develop self confidence in the children. They have created a stimulating, caring, learning environment were a high standard of behaviour is expected and the children develop kindness and respect towards others. A recent inspection of our Nursery provision confirmed that ‘a rich and interesting learning environment exists which promotes effectively the all round development of the children. The promotion of the children’s personal social and emotional development, language and early mathematical skills are particular strengths of the provision. The development of the children’s ICT skills is of a very high standard’ (ETI May 2013).

Parents play a key role in their children’s learning and the Nursery staff work in close partnership with them.

All the facilities of Dundonald Primary are available to the Nursery Unit and this provides the children with a stimulating environment both inside and outside which will promote effective learning where each child can learn to develop his/her full potential. A wide and rich variety of resources and activities are planned according to the pre-school curricular guidance to challenge children’s thinking and enhance their learning opportunities.
