  • Yale University Ice Hockey

    Thu 22 Nov 2018

As part of the Friendship Four Festival of STEM, our P6 pupils have enjoyed visits from the W5 Education Team and members of Belfast Giants. The purpose of the programme was to improve the pupils’ understanding of STEM subjects, making healthy choices and physical well-being.

The final part of the programme was a visit to W5 and an invitation to the hockey matches. For the fifth time in American Ice Hockey history, 4 college team games were played in Belfast. We were delighted to welcome 13 of the team & coaches from Yale University, Connecticut. On Friday 23 November, 111 families were able to attend the ice hockey games at the SSE Arena. We are grateful to Mr Shane Johnston for his sponsorship of this trip.

    Wed 14 Nov 2018

  • LEST WE FORGET

    Thu 08 Nov 2018

As the world reflects on the centenary of  World War I ending in 1918 our pupils and staff have been creating our own remembrance art installation. Our "flow of poppies", one created by each child, is currently on display in the reception area. Each poppy represents those young men from Dundonald who lost their lives and did not get to fulfil their lives ambitions.

    They shall grow not old,

As we that are left grow old,

    Age shall not weary them,

    Nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun,

    And in the morning

    We will remember them.

Primary 3 have been learning about famous people such as Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham and Neil Armstrong. W5 came to our school and P3 had such an exciting time learning light and sound. They then blasted off to space, making their own plastic bottle rockets and swinging chickens! It sure sounds like a lot of fun P3!!
  • Eco Week

    Fri 12 Oct 2018

We care about our environment at Dundonald Primary & Nursery School and do what we can to look after it. To show that we care, the whole school was involved in a variety of activities throughout the week. The activities are listed below:

    Monday - Upcycling Junk Art.

    Tuesday - Paper Free Day.

Wednesday - Be Bright, Be Seen.

                        - Daily Mile Challenge.

    Thursday - Power Down Day.

    Friday - Cash for Clobber.

From recycling junk materials and making them into something wonderful, to collecting clothes for Cash for Clobber we were kept busy. We also decided not to drive to school because that's not good for the environment. Instead of driving, we put on our bright clothing and went on our bike, scooter or some people even walked. Paper free day reminded us of the importance of not wasting paper to protect the beautiful trees. To save electricity we turned off the lights, computers and Interactive Whiteboards when we didn't need them.
